Civil Aircraft Register Update

Register Review

The steady increase in the number of aircraft in Australia continues this month with 35 aircraft listed in the New Allocations section. Of these, five are homebuilt machines including three Neico Lancair 320s and a Murphy Renegade. MQY is the first Renegade to receive VH markings although at least three more are flying using Ultralight markings. The three new Lancairs bring the total of this type on the Australian register to 22. Designed by Lance Neibauer, the Lancair first flew in June 1984 from Chino in California using a 100hp (75kW) Continental engine. A side-by-side two-seat, low-wing, retractable tricycle undercarriage aircraft, it has become popular worldwide as a fast, comfortable touring machine and utilizes mostly fiberglass construction with a forward sliding bubble canopy. All the Australian-built aircraft, except one, are the model 320, and use a higher-powered engine than the 100hp prototype.

Three more balloons have been added to the register in the shape of Kavanaghs BCP and BDE and Cameron OUR. The British-built Cameron flew for a very short time in England as G-BVDV whilst the two Australian-built Kavanaghs are the 137th and 139th envelopes to emerge from the Kavanagh factory in the Hunter Valley.
