Following the success of Tasmania's recent Skyrace event, T -6 class winner Mike Falls has moved quickly to form a four unit pylon racing team comprising the aircraft of Bill Waterton, Doug Hamilton and Hugh Waltho. The four launched their new team at the Easter Mangalore SAM fly-in and followed this up with the Lexus Cup at Leongatha on April 17. The concept revolves around a tight race through a 6km pylon course that should see 60 second laps being recorded. This will keep the field visual to the spectators at all times and maintain a level of excitement aided somewhat by informed commentary. Local companies are already climbing aboard to sponsor pylons and claim race naming rights and the presence of the team should prove a major boost for any future airshow, rural or major. A novel concept is the suggested inclusion of a one dollar surcharge per adult spectator which then goes towards funding the team's presence via a lottery that has as it's prize rides in the Harvards. Everyone's a winner so if you want more information contact Mike Falls on (03) 379 9299, tell him you saw it in AA. (Bill Lines)

Mig-21 Flys
On Wednesday March 2 the tarmac, the runway and the sky all shook as MiG-21UM VH-XXI made its first flight in Australian skies.
The former Polish Air Force aircraft had been trans- ported by low loader between Sydney’s Bankstown and Mascot airports late the previous night in order to avoid traffic problems with the oversized load. Bankstown was considered too short for the former Polish Air Force fighter. The two seat jet has been ready to fly for some time but it took a while for the paperwork to catch up.
