Lockheed Aircraft Services in Ontario, Canada has begun using a new plastic blasting aircraft paint stripping system that eliminates chemicals and thousands of litres of water. Plastic Media Bonding (PMB) removes chemicals from the paint stripping process, while reducing operator exposure to stripping chemicals and dramatically cutting harmful waste byproducts. The PMB facility uses small plastic pellets, blasting them against the aircraft's surface to remove paint. A vacuum system collects the material and a separator removes the paint particles so that the plastic media can be reused. A similar paint removal method was used by Boeing when it restored the original 707 prototype.
