Airline Profile – Flight West
Flight West Airlines
When you own something you look after it, nurture it, and have complete control over it. Sir Dennis Buchanan stands ready to take his Right West Airlines into the mid nineties with the same rational management which has established the carrier as one of Australia’s largest regional airlines. Julian Green reports from Brisbane
Today, Flight West’s 28 aircraft fly nearly 40,000km each day to some 50 ports and uplift 230,000 passengers annually around some of the most inhospitable country in Australia.
This independent carrier has survived five and a half years, and in the process has watched many other carriers collapse. Although it was relatively easy for Flight West to gain a strong foothold in a short space of time as a result of the withdrawal of other regional operators, turning these opportunities into viable operations has been a difficult task in the face of a sluggish economy.
