Raaf Flying Reserves at Last Come of Age
The recent Force Structure Review, despite its grey areas, needs to be looked at positively in that it has at last provided a viable infrastructure in which a larger number of reserve pilots can at last contribute their expertise and experience to the continuance of the defence of Australia.
For years this magazine has been labouring on the anomaly that has existed within the RAAF since the late fifties where highly skilled aircrew leave the service in the prime of their careers and are from that moment onwards totally lost to the system. What the FSR has initiated is a plan by which they can now sign on in the active reserve to even fly fast jets.
