Recession and Deregulation Creating Massive Changes in Traditional Travel Patterns:
Emerging data is indicating a considerable change to the traditional travel patterns for Australians young and old.
Harvey World Travel reports a considerable decline in interest from 18 to 29 year olds in travelling abroad via their Kontiki Tours organisation. Kontiki specialises in inexpensive European coach/camping holidays for young people. The significant decline is put down largely to the recession forcing more people to stay closer to home and taking a local holiday of just two to four weeks instead of leaving their jobs and taking the long traditional six month jaunt around Europe. Most major carriers flying between Europe and Australia report a drop in demand whilst local air travel is booming.
