Reece
Strange Times Indeed!
Regular readers might remember our August 1990 Reece centring around the danger in reducing Australia’s defence spending to the point where our armed forces were little better than mere supporting acts for Anzac Day marches.
Supporting Reece in that issue was an extensive article warning of the ever present dangers in letting one’s deterrent posture slip to the point where it became something less than credible. Ironically, barely a week after that issue hit the streets Saddam Hussein made his bloody lunge into Kuwait, again proving the theory that nobody really ever knows what is going to be happening a year, a month or even just a few days ahead in international politics.
