As part of its continuing long term research studies, Airbus Industrie is examining a very large, four-engined jetliner, primarily to tackle head on the current market leader, the Boeing 747. One concept is the aircraft depicted, which would seat about 600 passengers and fly at least 7,000nm (13,000km). However design studies are still in the early stages and it is unlikely that Airbus would make a firm entry into this market sector before the end of the century.
