Defence Update
Two Contenders for Postof Next Raaf Cas?
Two RAAFAir Vice Marshals appear to be the front runners at this stage for selection as the next Chief of the Air Staff (CAS).
Such speculation is current amid apparent indications that the current CAS, Air Marshal Ray Funnell (and the Chief of Naval Staff, ViceAdmiral Mike Hudson) will not have a further extension of his appointment beyond April next year. It seems to be generally agreed that this is the situation following the announcement in June by the new Defence Minister, Senator Robert Ray, that the Chief of the Defence Force, General Peter Gration, will continue in that position until April, 1993, representing a two year extension in a post that began in April, 1987.
