Chinese Yak-18A Trainers to Australia
The types of Warbird aircraft in Australia will be increased later this year when three Chinese built copies of the Russian Yak-18A ‘Mouse’ two seat trainer arrive in the country.
The aircraft, which are being imported by a Canberra based consortium, are in fact CJ-6 trainers as built by the Nanching Aircraft Manufacturing Company (NAMC) for the Chinese Air Force. Construction is a welded steel tube fuselage with metal wings and tail surfaces while the control surfaces are fabric covered. The machines are powered by a license built version of the Russian Al-14R nine cylinder radial engine of 260hp.
