Massive Delta Order Launches the MD90:
Delta Airlines has launched the long awaited MD90 family of twinjets with an order for 50 with options on a further 110.
The MD90 family is planned as a series of three sizes of transports, each powered by the International Aero Engines V2500 turbofan. The value of the Delta launch order for IAE is in excess of $A2. 2bn and comes as great news for IAE due to the recent demise of Braniff and its 100 strong order for V2500 powered A320 aircraft. Though the GPA owned A320s will be quickly taken up by other carriers, the engine specification for the bulk of them might be changed over to the more common CFM56.
