Wardair. is one operator which uses its new A310-300s on the transatlantic airbridge linking Canada with Europe. Airbus have EROPS kits available for both their big twins and have their marketing options nicely covered with the development of the four engined ultra long-range A340.

Erops – Twins Conquering Distance
The term EROPS denotes extended range operations of twin-engine aircraft. The mnemonic was coined in the early 1980s, and at present is still unfamiliar to many; however, if airframe and engine manufacturers, and numerous operators have anticipated correctly, the word will be considerably more familiar by the end of this decade.
Richard W Taylor, Vice President of the Boeing Commercial Airplane Company, published a paper in April 1987, which provides a graphic account of how this new era came about. Boeing, after all, is its chief instigator – the company began engineering studies in 1980 on the 767.
The manufacturer recognised that for airlines to operate with both viability and flexibility on many international sectors, in a number of instances, two engines were better than four.
