Interview – Joe Sutter
Joseph F. Sutter was named Executive Vice President of the Boeing Commercial Airplane Company in September 1981. He is responsible for engineering and product development activities and for government technical liaison. In his lifetime at Boeing, he has been heavily involved with the design and development of prototype 707 and later Chief of Technology on the 727 programme. In more recent times he has been instrumental in bringing the 757, 767, 747-300 and the 737-300 to fruition as programmes. In this interview with Australian Aviation, he outlines the future technological developments in line with Boeing and how they will affect the design of the next generation of airliners.
JT: The flagship of your line is the 747; can you detail some of the technological advances you, intend to build into the ‘second generation’ 747 that will be flying later this decade?
