Changes in Aircraft Registration System Under Investigation:
The DotA is investigating the future of the present VH aircraft registration system following the realisation that the current system has a ceiling of just under 15,000 registrations and that there may be a requirement for 20.000 registrations by 1990 if ANO 95 ultralights are to be registered as currently planned One alternative with some Departmental backing is to simply change to a two figure two letter combination (VH-EXA, for instance, becomes VH-EX43) which would provide a total of 67,600 combinations Alter- natively aircraft types maybe sub-grouped with ultralights having a VH-EXAU (U for Ultralight) registration and gliders having a ‘G’ code. balloons a ‘B’ code etc Discussions are presently at a high level and it is thought that the situation would be clarified by the end of this year.
Light at the End of the Tunnel?
