Small Computers About To Take Off In General Aviation
In a few years time there will be few aviation companies that will be able to operate efficiently without the use of computers.
I recently had the opportunity to witness a demonstration of some of the general aviation software programmes Bruce Whalen of Aviation Computers, Moorabbin Airport, has developed specifically for the industry.
Bruce has had vast experience in the industry as a USAF pilot in Vietnam, fifteen years with Pan Am and considerable experience in general aviation both here and abroad. He has drawn on this experience to develop programmes that meet the needs of pilots and operators. Hours spent formulating flight plans, accurate charter quotes, route studies, hourly operating costs etc. can be a thing of the past. Aviation Computers have developed a programme which includes the coordinates of most destinations in Australia stored in its memory. So it is simply a matter of feeding in the places that you wish to go and the computer does the rest in minutes, printing out the information straight onto the DofA flight plan forms.
