The RAAF has had extremely good service from their fleet of Bell UH-1BIDI H Iroquois. This is an H model, the most common in RA _ AF inventory and due to be replaced by a new Army support helo by 1990. Present competition for this billion dollar order comes from Sikorsky with the UH-60 Blackhawk, Bell with their 414, Westland with the W30 and Aerospat1ale with the Puma. (OPR)
1984 Australian Helicopter Directory
This is the first of our annual reviews of helicopter operations in Australia. The information contained herein has been gleaned from various sources, but it has not been possible to obtain a complete list of all Australian rotary wing operators. Even the civil register contains gaps and often shows only the owner, who may not necessarily be the operator.
The review has been compiled in two sections. Firstly, under headings signifying the principal functions of the modern helicopter are lists of operators whose fleets perform that function. We will be pleased to hear from operators who feel that they should be included in one or more of the lists next year. The second part is a brief description of each of the helicopter types presently flying in Australia.
