RAAF Mustang Exploits In Korea
The Australian at war has always carried with him a heritage of bravery and cunning not often surpassed by any other nation. Indeed the exploits of th. e RAAF and of Australians serving in foreign air arms are legend and something of which every Australian should be duly proud.
One of the most successful. aircraft operated by the RAAF in its 56 years is undoubtedly the P51D Mustang. Under the guidance of 77 Squadron, the Mustang enjoyed a chequered career in those early fateful days of the hard-fought Korean campaign. Often RAAF Mustangs took out fortified targets that the more modern jets could not while the men of 77 Squadron earned no less than 66 awards for bravery in the nine months that they operated the ‘Stang.
Australian Aviation & Defence Review is proud to bring you the story of that campaign portrayed by renowed aviation historian, Peter Anderson. Indeed if you are a fan of the Mustang, particularly in Australian operation, you could go no farther than to invest in Peter Anderson’s excellent book “Mustangs Of The RAAF and RNZAF“.
