Qantas will add capacity to its Sydney-Dallas/Fort Worth and Perth-Melbourne routes during the second half of the year.

From July 1, Qantas will add another weekly flight on the Sydney-Dallas route, taking it to a daily service. The flight from Sydney operates direct to Dallas, while the return service operates via Brisbane.

“This announcement is all about putting our gateway strategy into action and building a stronger Qantas International for our customers,” said Qantas executive manager Stephen Thompson.

Qantas has also announced that from October 15 that A330s will replace Boeing 767-300s on 24 services per week between Perth and Melbourne, including 12 services which will be operated by internationally configured aircraft featuring the Skybed business class seat.

“Qantas’s internationally configured Airbus A330 aircraft offer our award winning Skybed seats in business class and on-demand seat back in-flight entertainment throughout the business and economy cabins.

The move is largely seen as a response to Virgin Australia, which in May deployed its newest A330-200s onto the key Perth-Melbourne and Perth-Sydney markets. Qantas has also recently redeployed some of its 747-400s onto some Perth-Sydney services.
