Leading Indigenous construction company Tiwi Partners has been contracted to deliver a $7 million explosive ordnance storage facility at RAAF Base Darwin, setting the Northern Territory up for a major job boost.

It comes after we earlier reported that US airlines and Emirates were pursuing locked-down Australian pilots and will add to concerns the country could face a staff shortage when flying resumes. 

It’s hoped the trial will pave the way for the return of international travel, with Qantas having recently announced it will restart flights to London and LA in December.

The business said the resulting airfield would be the only one in the city equipped with technology that would allow aircraft to safely take off and land in foggy conditions that currently “shut down Sydney’s skies”.
