A Virgin Australia flight dispatched, operated, and handled entirely by women has touched down at Brisbane Airport as a symbolic gesture to mark International Women’s Day.

Peter Carter, director of Carter Capner Law, has called for major reforms to Queensland and Commonwealth law in the wake of the tragedy, which claimed four lives and caused three serious injuries.

The direct Auckland flights – the only international service from Sunshine Coast Airport – will start on 25 June and operate three times per week, on Sunday, Wednesday and Friday, until the end of October.

A preliminary report compiled by the ATSB also details how he “did not recall” hearing a radio call from the second helicopter outlining that he was due to take off.

The Flying Kangaroo said it was putting in place “contingencies” to minimise the disruption to passengers, while the airport added it remained in talks with workers from third-party supplier Rivet.

The Roulettes’ team of six pilots flew in their Pilatus PC-12s, while the Black Eagles’ team of eight pilots took off in their T-50bs at the airshow held in Victoria.
