The Cirrus SR22, VH-MSF, had four people on board when it stalled shortly after take-off from Canberra on 6 October 2023 before entering a spin and hitting the ground near Gundaroo, where its remains were consumed by fire. All occupants, including the pilot and three passengers, were killed.

Flight QF175, a new seasonal service to Auckland, took off from Adelaide shortly before 9am on Friday, landing in Auckland just after 3:15pm local time. It is the first time the Flying Kangaroo has flown internationally out of Adelaide since the end of a Singapore service in 2013.

Catriona Larritt, who was promoted from executive manager of Qantas Freight when Vanessa Hudson took over as chief executive in 2023, is set to leave the Flying Kangaroo to “pursue external opportunities” at the end of the year, Hudson revealed in a note to employees.

The multi-agency exercise saw WSI staff participate alongside around 300 volunteers and emergency services personnel, as well as federal agencies, and included a full-scale response to a simulated aircraft incident. Fifty emergency services vehicles were also on scene.
