Slated to open in 2028-29, the project will see New Zealand’s largest airport fully integrate a new domestic terminal into its international terminal, as the existing domestic terminal is almost at capacity and no longer fit for purpose.

Hypersonix Launch Systems was selected ahead of 63 entrants by the US Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) for a program testing aircraft that can fly faster than five times the speed of sound.

The twice-weekly A330 service will operate as VJ83 on Mondays and Fridays, and the airline expects them to bring more than 30,000 Vietnamese visitors to Brisbane in the first year.

Melbourne placed 19th on the overall global rankings, up seven places from last year, as well as taking best airport staff in the region. Last year’s regional winner of both categories, Brisbane, slipped one place to 23rd.

The airport saw a total of 2,312,697 travellers through its terminals during February, roughly double the total from February 2022, including 659,641 international passengers – a growth of almost 350 per cent over the previous year.
