Additional funding of $29.1 million will be given to the RFDS over the two financial years to 30 June 2025, on top of the $1 billion in funding already committed over 10 years. The extra funding includes $1 million for a permanent healthcare hub in William Creek, South Australia.

The airline, which received its fourth MAX 8 – VH-8ID – on 13 March, is staring down potential late arrivals of 31 new 737 MAX aircraft, including six MAX 8s and all 25 of its MAX 10s, owing to increased production delays across all Boeing aircraft types.

Lee Schofield, formerly CEO of FIFO operator Alliance Airlines and currently COO of aeromedical organisation LifeFlight, has also served as vice-chairman of the Regional Aviation Association of Australia. He took up the position of independent director and chair at HMC Group this month.

The 33,800sqm Brisbane North Parcel Facility, part of Brisbane Airport’s industrial park, will be Australia Post’s second largest site in Queensland, and will include a custom-built 31,800sqm warehouse alongside 2,000sqm of commercial office space and 350 car spaces.

In its February 2024 report, the air traffic management body found that only 1.3 per cent of flights for the month were affected by ATC ‘capacity constraints’, the lowest level in 10 months, with 6 per cent of arrival cancellations also attributable to Airservices.

The passenger numbers were bolstered by three major concert events over the month – Taylor Swift, Pink and Blink 182 – as well as the leap year offering an extra day of travel.
