Australia’s involvement will include the contribution of a RAAF P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft, as well as control staff, and Air Battlespace Management and Integrated Air and Missile Defence units.

As a part of Operation Gateway, working from the Royal Malaysian Air Force Base Butterworth, the aircraft conducted a range of maritime surveillance missions across the Northeast Indian Ocean and the South China Sea.
