Those on the so-called mercy flights from Sydney will have to undertake two-week quarantine in the country’s government-run managed isolation facilities (MIQ).

The news emerged from Friday’s national cabinet meeting, which also revealed 29 government-supplemented Qantas repatriations are scheduled to fly into Darwin.

A preliminary report into the incident on 26 May this year near Hay, NSW, also found no pre-existing defects with the flight controls, engine and structure of the helicopter operated by Stock & Station Aviation.  

The iconic aircraft was transported by a US Air Force C-5 Galaxy, pictured above, which has a 70-metre wingspan and weighs more than 172,000kg empty. 

Rex has said it will now issue cash refunds to passengers within seven days if they are unable to get on a flight for any COVID-related reason.
