A19-077 operated the final display flight from Point Cook last month, marking what Defence describes as “the end of an aircraft type that quietly shaped generations of military air power”.

Taking place at Surfers Paradise from 14-16 August 2026, the event will feature flying displays from the RAAF as well as formation warbird and aerobatic displays, firefighting displays, and other attractions. The show is returning this year after its cancellation in 2025.

The 1st Armoured Regiment, 1st (Australian) Division and members of the New Zealand Army formed Battlegroup Anzac for two weeks in May, testing robotic and autonomous systems at scale.

The carrier, which had planned to launch from Western Sydney International Airport (WSI) with a fleet of all Airbus A320neo family aircraft, has conceded it may need to consider older A320ceo (current engine option) planes as part of its fleet mix.

Taking place at RAAF Bases Darwin and Tindal from 6 to 17 July, Exercise Southern Cross 26 “seeks to practice operating as a trilateral task force within a contemporary, high-end, warfighting environment”, according to a statement from Defence.

During the launch, two Australian-supplied AGM-84 Harpoon guided missiles were successfully fired by No. 5 Squadron and struck the decommissioned target ship, USS Juneau, in the Philippine Sea on 27 June this year.
