Opinion: The Road to Racing and Aerobatics

Amid a global shortage of pilots, all it takes is some ambition, motivation, opportunity and a tonne of grit to make it.

I started flight training in 2016 and, like many students, had no idea of the journey ahead. I just wanted to fly. When I think about the current pilot shortage, it saddens me in a way because now, nearly seven years into flying professionally, I believe being a pilot is one of the most fulfilling careers with an uncommonly broad range of pathways and experiences to explore.

My journey in aviation started at a young age with my family, much like most Australian pilots. My dad, uncles and even grandparents are pilots, and I spent my youth hanging out, listening, absorbing, and dreaming of one day being a pilot myself.
