Qantas has opened its new Emergency Procedures Training Centre (EPTC) at its Mascot campus.
The 6,300sqm facility, which will train more than 10,000 pilots and cabin crew every year, integrates both wide-body and narrow-body training facilities, including replica cabins, door trainers, virtual reality equipment, a multi-storey escape slide and rafts, and classrooms.

“Our new centre in Sydney brings together new training technology and capability for our pilots and cabin crew across Qantas, Jetstar and QantasLink,” said Qantas Group chief executive Vanessa Hudson.
“These investments allow our crews to train on aircraft types before they arrive in the country, including Qantas’ Project Sunrise A350-1000ULR.
“As the largest aviation skills and training provider in Australia, our teams delivered more than 1.7 million hours of training in the past year and that number will keep growing as we take delivery of more new aircraft and welcome more people to Qantas and Jetstar.”
According to Qantas, the centre is “one of seven Qantas Group training facilities now in operation across the country, including a new Emergency Procedures Training Centre in Perth, which opened in March”.
“Seven new flight simulators commenced training pilots in the past 12 months, including the country’s first Airbus A350 simulator in Sydney, A320 simulators to train Qantas and Jetstar pilots and a new Q400 simulator to support QantasLink’s turboprop fleet transition,” the airline said.
“Upgrades to the Group’s Melbourne facility were also completed during the year.”
It comes after Qantas opened another training facility in St Peters in 2024, near Sydney Airport, housing five full-flight simulators, several fixed flight training devices and 10 classrooms.
The Flying Kangaroo, the same year, announced it would invest more than $40 million in skills and training programs, including a new “safety academy” in partnership with RMIT and Griffith University.
“Our people have been long renowned for their high standards of safety and training and this is the foundation of the investment we’re making in the future of Australian aviation and other industries,” said Hudson at the time.
“Our multi-million-dollar training investment means there will be new facilities and state-of-the-art equipment across Australia to train our current pilots and cabin crew, as well as the thousands of crew expected to join the Qantas Group over the next decade.”
Seventeen new aircraft arrived across the Qantas Group in the 2026 financial year.
