“Japan is a priority international visitor market for WA, with 33,000 travellers from Japan spending a total of $111 million across the state in the year ending March 2026,” the state government said.
“The route is one of 22 non-stop flights facilitating travel to Western Australia from key global destinations, connecting the state with the world and boosting tourism, business and investment opportunities.
“The return of the additional daily flights is part of the Cook Labor Government’s vision to diversify the economy by growing out-of-state visitation and boost the tourism sector by generating valuable dollars for the visitor economy.”
ANA first returned to Perth in October 2023, flying three times per week seasonally to Narita, with an extension to year-round services following a second season in 2024.
According to WA Premier and Tourism Minister Roger Cook, the route – supported by the state government – services “the growing number of visitors from Japan travelling to Western Australia”.
“Japan is an important international visitor market for Western Australia, and I am delighted that more visitors from Japan will be able to travel to Western Australia over the coming months with a second season of daily direct flights from Tokyo to Perth,” he said.
“This additional capacity reflects the growing demand for travel between Japan and Western Australia and further solidifies Perth’s reputation as Australia’s Western Gateway, strengthening our aviation sector.
“Aviation is a key priority in my Government’s bid to diversify the economy. This uplift in daily services will create lasting benefits and opportunities for our tourism and trade industries – ultimately growing Western Australia’s visitor economy and supporting local jobs.”
Perth Airport notched up a record financial year for traffic in 2025–26, with international passengers up 8.1 per cent to 5.55 million. It comes as Perth continues its “One Airport” transformation program to centralise all operations within one precinct.
