Now in their fifth year, the Australian Aviation Awards celebrated excellence across the breadth of the aviation ecosystem, recognising outstanding achievements from commercial aviation, general aviation, aerospace, defence, aviation technology, safety, education and innovation.
More than 30 individuals and organisations were honoured across the evening’s categories, selected from a highly competitive field of finalists representing some of Australia’s most influential aviation companies, institutions and professionals.
The event brought together senior leaders, executives, innovators, academics and aviation specialists from across Australia to celebrate the achievements of those driving the sector forward and strengthening the nation’s aviation capability.
The highest-scoring individual recipient was awarded the prestigious Excellence Award, recognising an exceptional contribution to Australian aviation and outstanding leadership within the industry; this year, the honour went to Mavis Tom of Solomon Airlines, who also won Female Aviation Leader of the Year – SME.
Australian Aviation Awards Defence & Aerospace Lead Steve Kuper said the 2026 winners reflected the depth, diversity and resilience of Australia’s aviation sector.
“From commercial aviation and pilot training through to defence aerospace, advanced manufacturing and emerging technologies, the Australian aviation sector continues to demonstrate world-class capability,” Kuper said.
“These awards are an opportunity to recognise the people working behind the scenes to make aviation safer, more innovative and more strategically important to Australia’s future.”
Among this year’s winners were professionals and organisations representing major airlines, defence industry partners, universities, aviation training providers, airports and technology innovators.
The awards highlighted achievements from across the sector, including advances in aviation safety, workforce development, engineering excellence, sustainability, operational performance and next-generation aerospace capability.
Kuper said the aviation industry is entering a period of significant transformation, driven by technological advancement and Australia’s increasing strategic requirements, saying, “Aviation is no longer simply about connecting people and places, it is a critical national capability that supports economic growth, sovereign capability and Australia’s engagement with the region.”
The gala evening also provided an opportunity for industry leaders and peers to network, celebrate achievements and acknowledge the contribution of aviation professionals across the country.
The awards ceremony featured entertainment from Australian comedian, writer and satirist Mark Humphries who served as master of ceremonies for the evening.
“The organisations and individuals recognised tonight are helping define the next generation of Australian aviation through innovation, professionalism and a commitment to excellence,” Kuper said.
The Australian Aviation Awards remain one of the sector’s leading recognition programs, providing aviation professionals, businesses and organisations with an opportunity to showcase their achievements, strengthen their reputation and celebrate excellence among their peers.
Open to aviation businesses and professionals nationwide, winners were selected by an independent judging panel comprising respected industry executives, business leaders, academics, innovators and aviation specialists.
