Concorde Refurbished for the 21st Century

Ba Refurbishment Programme To Ensure Concorde Operations Well Into The 21st Century

As the ‘First Lady of the Skies’ enters her 25th year, Concorde’s two operators are investing substantially in her future with an internal makeover, and an update programme to keep her in the skies for at least another 25 years. During a recent visit to Heathrow, Captain Jock Lowe, Director of Flight Operations for British Airways, discussed the steps the company is taking in maintaining both Concorde’s perfect flying record and its unique marketing advantage.

“In general, it is an aircraft that has stood the test of time in a superb way. It has truly exceeded everybody’s expectations.” Capt Lowe proudly set the scene for Concorde’s refurbishment programme with a smile that is hard to keep from anyone’s face who has ever had anything to do with the aircraft, whether as a designer, ground handler, pilot or passenger. Since the first Anglo-French designs for a Sst were tabled in 1956, many facets of those original investments in Concorde’s engineering have allowed it to become a breaker of numerous records.
