Controlled Airspace?

This story emanates from the protracted war that raged on, largely unnoticed by the outside world, during the late 1960s and right through the 1970s in Rhodesia (now the independent state of Zimbabwe). Rhodesian Security Forces faced a mammoth task of combating the continued incursions into Rhodesia of ever-increasing numbers of heavily armed terrorist gangs. These gangs were more often than not trained, provisioned and mobilised from large camps positioned within and sanctioned by neighbouring African states sympathetic to their cause.

One method that the Rhodesian High Command employed to combat these incursions was to strike at, and destroy these camps when they were considered too great a threat to national security. During the closing months of 1978, one such strike was planned and executed by aircraft of the Rhodesian Air Force on Westland’s Farm, a large training camp on the outskirts of Lusaka, the capital of Zambia which adjoined Rhodesia’s northern border.
