Tiger Moth, Wackett, Winjeel & Ct-4 In Australian Service: Stewart Wilson

The 13th and final in Stewart Wilson’s popular Australian Airpower series deals with four aircraft which, although normally far from the front line of combat, are of vital importance to any air force — the trainers.

One of the best features of these books has been the coverage of local design and/or manufacture of many of the Raaf’s aircraft, and this one is no exception, providing good insight into the Tiger Moth, Wackett and Winjeel programmes. The Winjeel section is particularly interesting because it examines the handling problems which plagued the original Ca-22 prototypes (the aircraft refused to spin properly) and looks at how these problems were gradually overcome. The reproduction of contemporary reports adds to the interest.
