Nz Warbirds Assoc Founder Member Crashes, Dies

Ian Reynolds, who in 1978 was a founder member of the Nz Warbirds Association, died soon after his de Havilland Chipmunk crashed during the Warbirds Over Wanaka Air Show at Easter. He was 47. Mr Reynolds was part owner of the Chipmunk, built in 1950 and originally used by the Royal New Zealand Air Force.

All five Chipmunks operating in New Zealand were at the Wanaka Warbirds show — the first time in living memory that all five machines had been together, according to Wayne Parsons, a friend of Ian Reynolds and a Warbirds Association member since 1984. Mr Reynolds, who had a leather manufacturing business in Auckland, died on Easter Sunday while completing a loop manoeuvre in the trainer. His wife was at the airshow.
