Register #402 | Cracking the CASA code

Oh, we are so back! I’ve finally cracked the CASA Register File ‘code’ and now we’re back to (mostly) regular-scheduled programming. If my calculations are correct, circa 650 jets were added to or traded in the CASA register over the last three months – not a bad result, considering the fragile state of the economy more broadly. Of that, we saw 115 new planes added, as northern-hemisphere manufacturers ramp up summer deliveries. Good vibes ahead.

To kick us off, Virgin Australia welcomed six more Boeing 737 MAX 8 jets to the register this quarter, with VH-8IL, -8IM, -8IO, -8VF, -8IP, and -8VJ, with all but the last two delivered at the time of writing. Excluding the two to be delivered, Virgin is now operating 23 MAX jets, nearing its total standing MAX order. The airline currently still holds an order for 10 of the larger Boeing 737 MAX 10 aircraft, having switched some of its additional 15 options over to the smaller MAX 8 it operates today. Boeing continues to pursue legal certification of the larger MAX 10 variant through the US regulator, the US Federal Aviation Administration, but faces (rightfully) heightened scrutiny following the original MAX certification fiasco. Boeing was successful in recent weeks in getting the smaller variant, the MAX 7, certified, which is hopeful news for Virgin’s 10s.
