The program was launched in 2018 and has sold nearly 200,000 tickets to date.
In hopes of helping businesses boom again, Tourism Minister Reece Whitby said that supporting the local economy to get back on its feet was a “top priority” for the government, with the reinstating the Affordable Airfares Program expected to achieve this.
“The Affordable Airfares Program helps drive visitation to WA’s regional destinations, making it easier and more affordable for travellers to explore our state, while strengthening the tourism sector as part of the Cook Government’s economic diversification strategy,” Minister Whitby said.
“As communities recover from Cyclone Narelle, supporting tourism operators, local businesses and jobs is a top priority for the Cook Government, and is critical to rebuilding regional economies.”
Specifically, fares under $260 one-way are being offered to the Broome, Kununurra, and Exmouth regional communities via Qantas, Virgin Australia, and Airnorth.
Alongside the program, a $1.45 million Tourism Business Support Package has been established by the Cook government to provide direct support to eligible businesses affected by the Cyclone. Businesses will be able to access one-off $4,000 payments.
“Our regions offer unforgettable tourism experiences, and the local businesses that support visitors play a vital role in creating jobs and driving regional economies,” Regional Development Minister Stephen Dawson said.
“Following the impact of Cyclone Narelle, we know businesses and communities need practical support to recover and rebuild.
“This initiative supports local operators, encourages visitors to return, and ensures our regions remain connected, resilient and open for business.”
