Solomon Airlines has added an extra weekly flight between Brisbane and Espiritu Santo in Vanuatu.

Commencing earlier this month, the Saturday flights complement an existing Tuesday service, which replaced a now-defunct Air Vanuatu route in 2024. The Saturday service will switch to Thursdays between July 2026 and January 2027.

“This increase to twice-weekly flights between Brisbane and Santo opens the door for more Queenslanders to discover one of the South Pacific’s most picturesque and unspoiled tropical destinations,” said Brisbane Airport spokesperson Peter Doherty.

“With its pristine beaches, famous blue-water lagoons, world-class diving and rich culture, Espiritu Santo offers a new and authentic escape for travellers seeking something beyond the usual island getaway.

“Solomon Airlines’ increased capacity will make it easier than ever to enjoy a week-long holiday or a long weekend in paradise.”

Solomon Airlines CEO Matthew Findlay said the carrier is “proud to be deepening our collaboration [with Vanuatu] through joint marketing and operational alignment”.

“The commencement of this second weekly service to Espiritu Santo is a strong vote of confidence in the destination and reflects the growing demand we are seeing for Santo.

“It also underscores the strength of our partnership with Vanuatu and the collective efforts of all tourism stakeholders, including Espiritu Santo Tourism Association (ESTA), the VTO, Air Vanuatu and Government.

“We remain committed to working closely with our partners to support sustainable growth, improved connectivity and long-term outcomes for Santo and the wider Vanuatu market.”

Vanuatu Tourism Office CEO Adela Issachar Aru has also applauded the move, hailing it as “very welcome news for Vanuatu’s tourism industry, particularly for our partners and communities in Santo”.

“Improved and reliable air access is essential as we continue to rebuild and grow our visitor economy, and this additional service is an important step forward for our northern islands,” said Aru.

“We have a long and valued partnership with Solomon Airlines and we are pleased to see that commitment strengthened through increased services.

“This expanded schedule gives Australian travellers greater flexibility when planning their holidays, whether they are looking for a longer escape or a shorter break in the Pacific.”

Brisbane and Honiara are the only two international destinations served by Santo International Airport, with Air Vanuatu also operating domestic services.
