QantasLink A220s are set to come to Adelaide within the next two months, the airline says.
Starting on 3 March, the new A220s will begin to replace the smaller Embraer E190s on Adelaide-Brisbane services, bringing in-flight wi-fi, updated cabins, and around 100,000 additional seats per year to the route.

“This is great news from Qantas for customers on one of our top three busiest routes. Travellers will enjoy this significant aircraft upgrade from the previous Embraer E190s,” said Adelaide Airport managing director Brenton Cox.
“New generation aircraft like the Airbus A220 are perfectly suited for the flight distance and passenger volumes we see on the Adelaide-Brisbane route and we thank Qantas for their continued investment in South Australia.”
QantasLink CEO Mark Dal Pra said the A220s have “high customer satisfaction ratings”, including for their large overhead bins, ambient LED lighting, and reduced noise and emissions. They are slated to begin international flights from Brisbane to Wellington next month.
“Customers love flying on our new A220s, which offers a more modern cabin that is lighter, brighter and more spacious,” he said.
“It’s another major milestone for our fleet renewal as we continue to take delivery of new aircraft and invest in the customer experience.
“With more aircraft on the way, customers will continue to see these fantastic new aircraft expand across more routes and destinations.”
There are now eleven A220s in the QantasLink fleet, and Qantas says it expects to receive another four by the middle of this year.
“The A220 is part of the Qantas Group’s historic fleet renewal program, with more than 200 new aircraft on order, providing customers with improved comfort, efficiency and reliability,” the airline said in a statement.
“The A220 also has a longer range than the aircraft it is replacing, creating more route possibilities and travel options, as the fleet grows.”
Qantas says it has been making a “significant investment” into South Australia, including the refurbishment of its domestic lounge at Adelaide, the return of international services, the planned opening of a new “product innovation centre”, and the introduction of Dash 8 Q400s on all its regional SA services.
