Perth Airport has added to a run of record years, passing 18 million passengers for the first time in 2025 after almost hitting 17 million in 2024.
Australia’s western gateway saw 18.026 million travellers in the 2025 calendar year, up from 16.9 million in 2024 and more than 15 million in 2023. This included all-time highs for international (5.4 million), regional (6.4 million), and interstate (6.2 million) passengers.

In total, 6.6 per cent more people passed through Perth’s terminals in 2025 than in the previous year.
“The resources sector remains a key driver of regional passenger numbers, but tourism and business travel are now having a bigger influence, reflected in the stronger interstate and international traveller numbers,” Perth Airport chief executive, Jason Waters, said.
“Qantas has launched direct flights to Johannesburg and Auckland, ANA now operates daily flights to Tokyo, and China Southern Airlines has recently announced a year-round, non-stop service between Perth and Guangzhou, which means we are expecting international passenger numbers to soar to even greater heights in 2026.”
According to Waters, the “unprecedented demand and exceptional growth in passenger numbers underscores the critical need for additional capacity and improved facilities” at Perth Airport.
“To meet this challenge, in 2025 we unveiled our ‘One Airport’ vision, supported by a historic multi-billion-dollar investment program set to reshape Perth Airport over the next decade.
“This transformation includes a new parallel runway, expanded international terminal, new terminal facilities, two multi-storey carparks, significant road upgrades, and our first on-airport hotel.
“Work is already underway – we are constructing our first multi-storey carpark, upgrades to Terminal 1 and Terminal 2 are also progressing. We’ve also commenced work on the critical new runway project.
“The coming decade will completely change the face of Perth Airport, creating a better travel experience for passengers, greater efficiency for airlines, and significant economic benefits for Western Australia.”
The airport in September last year released its draft 2026 master plan, which forecast annual passenger numbers to grow from 17.48 million to 30.8 million by 2046, with aircraft movements to grow from 160,800 to 222,800 per year and air freight to reach up to 269,000 tonnes.

says:Perth Airport can crow all they like about passenger numbers. I have just had a week of interstate and international visitors to Perth. Picking them up and dropping them off is a nightmare. A total of six pickup / drop off bays to serve the entire International Terminal plus Virgin Arrivals / departures. Worst airport ever.
