1993 EAA Oshkosh Fly-in Colour Report

The 1993 EAA Oshkosh Convention and Fly-In will not go down in history as the best year to date. The unseasonably wet weather in the weeks leading up to the event affected attendance by both aviation enthusiasts and aircraft but nevertheless, in the best tradition, the show went on and as always there were some surprises.

Oshkosh 1993- Wet but Wonderful

As most readers would be aware, the midwest of America suffered from severe wet weather just before the annual EAA Fly-in and this prevented numbers of aircraft getting to the event as well as keeping some owners and enthusiasts at home to look after flood damaged properties.

The Oshkosh airport, Wittman field, was itself hit by a storm just two days before the Fly-In, damaging a number of aircraft in the process. Several areas of the airport became unusable for visiting aircraft with the result that some aircraft were forced to park at nearby Appleton or Fond du lac airports. Fortunately, rain did not affect the actual convention period.
