Could Trump Have Helped Unbox the Next Australian Drone Boom?

The Australian drone industry may benefit from the slipstream of a US push to overcome regulatory hurdles, says a UNSW expert.

REGULATORY HURDLES to beyond visual line-of-sight (BVLOS) operations, where pilots control the drones from a computer screen, are bottlenecks on the industry’s widespread scaling, says the head of UNSW’s School of Aviation drone program, Dr Graham Doig.

But Australia can benefit by learning from the results of global efforts to speed up BVLOS rulemaking, he says, particularly in the US.
