The federal government has announced the investment of over $270 million to enhance and strengthen existing air mission training under Project AIR 5428 Phase 3 for the Royal Australian Air Force.

In a contract awarded to CAE Australia, a major provider of training simulators and services, the investment will see crews train in CAE’s Future Air Mission Training System (F-AMTS).

“CAE is proud to deliver a future-ready training system that combines innovation, technical advantage and trusted partnerships to help the Australian Defence Force to raise, train and sustain skilled personnel,” said France Hébert, CAE president, defence and security, Canada and International.

“This is more than a shift in how training is delivered – it is a strategic investment in Australia’s national resilience and defence capability.

“By delivering a world-class, scalable and cost-effective training solution, CAE will equip aviators with the skills, confidence and agility to meet operational demands effectively.”

F-AMTS combines teaching and education with integrated learning environments such as advanced simulators and airborne training opportunities.

The systems simulations, real-world environment training and advanced courseware are set to enhance modern training on platforms such as the MC-55A Peregrine and MQ-4C Triton.

F-AMTS is set to increase aircrew training by approximately 70 per cent through contemporary training and education methods.

“The Albanese government is revolutionising air mission training so that more Defence personnel are trained and ready for the challenges of tomorrow,” Minister for Defence Industry Pat Conroy said.

“By partnering with CAE, we are delivering cutting-edge training systems for our Defence force personnel and creating up to 190 jobs for Australian workers.”

“This investment underscores our commitment to building sovereign capability, backing Australia’s defence industry and delivering jobs for Australian workers,” he added.

The funding will also see training systems for operating crews in the RAAF upgraded to support air and ground capabilities as a part of the newly introduced Air Mission Training School.

The training system will be delivered to RAAF Base East Sale in Victoria.
