Perth Airport has hit another yearly passenger record as international demand continued to grow.
The airport saw 17.5 million passengers in the 2024–25 financial year, an 8.5 per cent increase from 16.1 million in 2023–24. More than half of this growth came from international passengers, with total revenue also increasing 14.4 per cent to $751.8 million.

“Our State’s resources sector saw extraordinary growth in our regional passenger numbers throughout the Covid period, and this has continued in FY25,” said airport chief executive Jason Waters.
“This is now being complemented by strong growth in international passengers as we help bring even more overseas travellers to Western Australia.
“We’ve seen new airline and route commencements including Paris, Phuket, Kuala Lumpur, Bangkok, and Johannesburg along with increased capacity into existing markets including Denpasar, Dubai and Singapore.
“This increase in passenger activity has in turn helped drive increases in aeronautical and retail revenue and, to a lesser extent, our ground transport revenue.
“The surge in passenger numbers is further proof of the need for new aviation infrastructure to ensure the future growth of aviation, tourism and the resources sector in Western Australia.”
Perth Airport is currently in the midst of a major infrastructure overhaul, with works beginning last month to overhaul Terminal 2. According to Waters, the airport increased capital expenditure by 23.6 per cent to $335 million in FY25.
“This will be the largest ever private investment in infrastructure in Perth’s history. At its peak, we expect around 4,000 to 5,000 workers on the Perth Airport estate to deliver these projects,” he said.
“The new runway project alone, which will move into the major construction phase early in 2026, represents an investment of more than $1 billion over the next four years.
“The FY25 capital investment of $335 million will grow significantly in coming years whilst ensuring the most economically efficient build for our airline partners.
“The end result will be a remarkable transformation of Perth Airport with all flight services contained in ‘One Airport’.”
Perth Airport last month released the Preliminary Draft Major Development Plan for its new terminal project, which is now open to public comment.
The project, part of Perth’s “One Airport” program, includes terminal facilities, aprons and taxiways, and will be led by Western Sydney International Airport designer Woods Bagot. Public comment is open until 14 January.
The airport in September also released its draft 2026 master plan, which forecast annual passenger numbers to grow from 17.48 million to 30.8 million by 2046, with aircraft movements to grow from 160,800 to 222,800 per year and air freight to reach up to 269,000 tonnes.
