Jetstar has launched three new international routes in the last week as the summer holiday peak approaches.
The low-cost carrier is now flying from Sydney to Port Vila, Sunshine Coast to Auckland, and Brisbane to Bangkok, and has launched four new routes in the past fortnight, with Sunshine Coast to Cairns having commenced on 4 December.

The Port Vila service, which began on Thursday and is operating up to four times per week in peak periods using A321neo LRs, is the only non-stop connection between Sydney and Vanuatu.
Both Qantas and Jetstar are looking to fill the gap left behind by the collapse earlier this year of codeshare partner Air Vanuatu, which has since left voluntary liquidation but is yet to return to international flying.
“Getting to this Pacific Island paradise is now easier and more affordable than ever with Jetstar offering the only direct flights from Sydney,” said Jetstar’s executive manager, customer, Jenn Armor.
“The launch of new budget-friendly services to Vanuatu is part of a significant expansion of Jetstar’s network in 2024 with 14 new routes taking off.”
The Brisbane–Bangkok service, meanwhile, launched on Friday as the only non-stop connection between Queensland and Thailand, and will operate three times per week on Jetstar’s 787-8 Dreamliner fleet.
It is the carrier’s 20th route out of Brisbane following a massive Queensland expansion, said Jetstar’s head of network, fleet strategy and planning, Ted Knight, with the airline now the second biggest international carrier at Brisbane Airport behind sister airline Qantas.
“The last time Queenslanders had a direct flight to Bangkok was before the pandemic, and our sold-out inaugural flight shows Jetstar’s low fares to Thailand’s capital will be popular,” Knight said.
“We thank the Queensland Government and Brisbane Airport for their continued support, allowing our customers to take off more for less.”
Finally, the Sunshine Coast-Auckland route, which also commenced on Friday, will fly up to three times per week using Jetstar’s A320s. It will be the only year-round non-stop service between the two cities and comes as part of a major expansion of Jetstar’s New Zealand network.
“The Sunshine Coast is one of Jetstar’s most popular destinations and it’s great to be launching these new routes and bringing more people to this beautiful part of the world,” Armor said.
“The new service will not only benefit tourists, but it will also help connect the Sunshine Coast’s large population of Kiwi ex-pats with their home country.”
Jetstar recently added its first A320neo to the fleet, VH-A5A, which has already begun operating revenue flights.
