The future of Skytrans

In a surprise move earlier this year, Europe-based aviation firm Avia Solutions Group, which has around 200 aircraft in its fleet across several continents, bought Cairns-based airline Skytrans, which primarily operates turboprop flights across regional Queensland.

The aim, according to Avia, is to use Skytrans’ existing air operator’s certificate (AOC) to bring in jet aircraft for aircraft, crew, maintenance and insurance (ACMI) operations, otherwise known as wet leasing, while maintaining Skytrans’ existing regular passenger transport network.
