Singapore Airlines (SIA) has opened a new lounge at Perth Airport, a month ahead of its resumption of four daily flights from the WA capital.

The redesigned SilverKris lounge will serve SIA’s business class and qualifying frequent travellers, with the airline to add a fourth flight per day from 31 March. The extra flights will use 303-seater A350-900 aircraft, adding 220,584 more seats to the Perth market per year.

According to Perth Airport’s chief commercial and aviation officer, Kate Holsgrove, SIA is Perth’s number one international airline for seat capacity, delivering more than 930,000 seats per year.

“Singapore Airlines has been instrumental in growing WA’s business, education, trade, and tourism links with Singapore,” she said.

“Singapore has become Western Australia’s second largest international visitor market, injecting $260 million into the WA economy in visitor expenditure alone last year.”

“The airline also has a long and proud record of linking the world with Western Australia and the additional flights will provide even more options for West Australians to travel to multiple cities in Asia, Europe and the USA via its Singapore hub.”

The new lounge is twice the size of the previous and includes a larger buffet area, showers, “productivity pods” for business travellers, and wingback chairs, as well as ready access to USB and charging ports.

It will be open to SIA Business or First Class Suites passengers; PPS Club and KrisFlyer Elite Gold members; Virgin Australia Velocity Beyond, Platinum, and Gold card members departing on SIA-operated flights; and Star Alliance Gold Members travelling on Star Alliance-operated flights during lounge operating hours.

SIA’s regional vice president South West Pacific, Louis Arul, said the lounge is evidence of Perth’s role in global connectivity.

“The opening of the new SilverKris Lounge at Perth International Airport, together with the resumption of four daily flights from Perth to Singapore, is a significant milestone in our almost 60-year history in Perth, during which our operations have grown in tandem with the city,” he said.

“We are pleased to have been a steady contributor to Perth’s global connectivity over the years. The new lounge is a significant investment to ensure the ground experience matches the premium experience in the air, and testament to our confidence in Western Australia.

“I would also like to extend a sincere thanks to our customers for their patience during the construction, and to the team at Perth Airport who have worked closely with us to bring this project to life.”

SIA has ramped up its return to pre-pandemic operations sooner than expected, previously bringing forward a planned capacity increase in November.
