NJE will operate two weekly charter flights from Perth to Kalgoorlie and Kambalda using its E190 and Dash 8-400NG aircraft for an unnamed Goldfields mining company, as well as three weekly E190 flights between Perth and Woodie Woodie for Consolidated Minerals.

The service, flown with 232-seat A330-200 aircraft, will operate three times per week between 20 January and 18 February 2024 over the Chinese New Year period. It follows a previous trial route in January 2020, which was cancelled due to the onset of COVID-19.

The news will add competition for other carriers operating the route, including Qantas, which flies daily, and subsidiary Scoot.

UniSQ’s Dr Tristan Shelley, who will head the research, said he hoped the virtual workflows the team would develop could eliminate current laborious processes.

The business made the announcement on the day its third 737 MAX, VH-8IB ‘Bronte Beach’, is set to arrive in Brisbane from the US.

In documents obtained by The Age under freedom of information laws, the airport proposed shifting tunnel boring machines already being used on the North East Link and West Gate Tunnel projects onto the rail link project as a means to save money on the construction of an underground line.
