Long-time Rex ambassador and industry veteran Max Kingston died last month aged 88.
The popular Kingston was known for his distinctive moustache and storied career that also saw him serve as the world president of the industry networking organisation Skal.
Rex’s chairman, Lim Kim Hai, said the business had lost a “very dear friend” and “constant supporter”, while fellow ambassador Kay Hull called him an “extraordinary gentleman”.
“He became a very dear friend to all of us over our time as ambassadors, where the calls went from every few weeks to every few days all the way through the pandemic,” said Hull.
“His generous and caring nature extended to his shopping for food and essentials to collecting and putting out the garbage for all those who had COVID in his block of units.
“He had such pride in recently being headhunted as commissionaire for the Fullerton Hotel, and what a gem they engaged.
“What Max has given to so many over his well-lived life cannot be measured. He will be in our hearts for all time.”
Kingston began his career with the then-Bank of NSW Travel Service in 1956 and later worked in London, Fiji and Papua New Guinea.
He capped his 18 years at Rex by making his last public appearance at the airline’s 20th anniversary celebrations in August, where he is pictured above.
Kingston died at Sydney’s Royal North Shore Hospital surrounded by his family after recently suffering a fall.
Australian Aviation extends its deepest sympathies to Kingston’s family and friends.
