While planes originally intended for the transport of people, rather than goods and freight, time has allowed them to evolve into something much greater.
Since the dawn of aviation, cargo has been something of an afterthought to passengers in aircraft design and manufacture.
The original goal of flying was always to get people from point A to point B via the air. Soon of course, people started wanting to bring some luggage with them. From that grew the idea that perhaps the plane could also carry a few other items with it on its flights. The appeal of transporting the mail quicker by air than by other methods soon took o and helped fund the expansion of early airlines.
