Hawker Pacific’s Ian D’Arcy talks rotary in the Australian market, challenges and opportunities, and the launch of the game-changing Bell 525
As blockbuster moments go, not much in the rotary business can match the anticipation of the release of Bell’s 525. The 16-seater will become the world’s first commercial helicopter with fly-by-wire controls, meaning it will replace manual inputs with smarter computer response. It will, in layman’s terms, provide a game-changing leap in reducing pilot workload and aircraft handling. Ask Ian D’Arcy, Hawker Pacific’s vice president in the Middle East & Pacific, about it, and his voice quickens to a giddy rush of enthusiasm.
“It’s just a fantastic machine,” he says, talking to Australian Aviation from his office in Dubai. “I’ve been lucky enough to visit Bell and see that aircraft first-hand. It has to be seen to be believed. We are hoping to see this aircraft let loose in Australia next year and as the exclusive Bell distributor in regions, we can’t wait to share this with our customers. It’s a game-changer in the world of rotary space.”
